T12 and T10 making our own Worm Farms

On Friday we travelled to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens.

We met Chris from the city council at The Curators House. He took us to a secret spot to make our worm farms.

First, we had to make our bottles nice and dark. We used newspaper.

It was great having lots of adults to help us.

Next, we had to make a bed for the worms.
We ripped up newspaper to make it.
It was fun tearing lots of strips.
Then, Chris got us to soak them in some warm water with a little bit of soil mixed in.
It was fun getting our hands wet.
We found a great spot to have some morning tea.
Then, we got to do the best part, FIND OUR WORMS!
Tiger was very excited to find his own tiger worm!
We were all brave and got our hands in the soil.

It was a fantastic morning. Thank you to all the parents who came and lent a hand.

  1. How amazing to find out that Tiger worms have 5 hearts and breathe through their skin. Amazing! Great work everyone - the worm farms looked fabulous.
